Peter - 4 months

Peter had his four month appointment a couple weeks ago.  He's 13.5 lbs (10th %ile) and 25.5 inches long (61st %ile).  I guess he's getting long and lean.
A few things about Peter at 4 months:

He rolls over both ways now.  He got the front to back thing down at 2.5 months, but he learned the back to front roll just a few weeks ago.  Now when we put him down on his back, he's on his tummy in less than a minute.  He often seems to get stuck there on his tummy, like's he's forgotten how to roll, but in the last couple days it seems to be coming back to him.  Now he ends up far from the blanket we put him down on.  He's always been a mover.  In fact we often call him wiggles because of it.

He loves to grab his feet and can get them into his mouth pretty well.

He sits in the bumbo, but he doesn't last too long before he wants out.  What he really likes right now is standing.  Just holding his hands, he can go easily from a sitting to a standing position.  Then he just locks his little legs and he could stand there all day.

He is really smiley.  You just look at him and you get a wide gummy smile with a few spastic arms and legs to accentuate it.

Peter has "Turned-in feet" or Metatarsus Adductus.  His tiny feet are very curved, but supposedly it should work itself out before he starts walking.  Our doctor has recommended exercises for his foot muscles also.

Peter is pretty chatty, certainly chattier than Jane was at this age.  His happy squeaks and coos are so fun, even if he is occasionally pretty loud at church.

He is at the stage now, where he gets very distracted while nursing.  He looks up at me and breaks into a huge smile.  It's incredibly sweet but not very productive.

Hawaii - Day VI

On our last day in Hawaii, we parted ways with the Reids fairly early.  They had a plane to catch in the morning, but we were taking the red-eye out that night.  We had such a fun vacation with them, it was sad to have it over so soon.
After checking out of our beach house, we went to see the Bonzai Pipeline.  The waves weren't huge like they get in the winter, but they were still so beautiful.  It was an incredible beach, I could have stayed there all morning just watching the waves.

We finally stopped at a fruit stand and picked up some fresh fruit and a fried banana (I can't remember what they're called) and then took a peek at Sunset beach before stopping for some more Kua Aina burgers.

After letting Jane chase pigeons in the park for a bit, we headed down to Kailua (Colette's part of the island, and stopped at a couple look out points before meeting up with her for dinner one last time.

Jane loves to run.  See Jane run.

After Jane's rough flight out, we were a little worried about our red-eye back.  It would either be the best idea or the worst idea to fly through the night.  It turned out to be great.  The lady sitting next to Chris gave up her seat, so Jane could lie down there and she had no trouble at all falling asleep.  In fact, before the flight took off, Jane grabbed the pillow they give you and laid down in the middle of the aisle with her blanket on top.  She was ready.  Peter slept on my chest from before the we boarded the plane until after we got off.  It couldn't have gone smoother.

Hawaii - Day V

We started at Sharks Cove for a little snorkeling, but the water was still too rough, so we just waded in the shallow cove for a bit before heading to another secluded beach on the North Shore.

We set up camp at on a beach just south of us and stayed all morning.  It was just a little windy, but otherwise quite pleasant.  We even got to see some sea turtles swimming up close.

We ate Kua Aina burgers again and then headed over to Matsumoto's for their famed shave ice.  It was good, but not as good as the shave ice Chris and I snuck out for after the kids were asleep a few days prior.  I've never even cared about shave ice, but with the ice cream on the bottom and the sweet'n'condensed milk on top... well, I'm a fan now.

After lunch Caitlin sweetly offered to watch the kids while we went stand up paddle boarding on the river.  We met up with Colette, who's been living in Hawaii for the last year and got out on the river.  The paddleboarding was awesome, but catching up with Colette was even better.  We got to visit back at the house for a while too and then ended with some shrimp from Macky's shrimp truck.  I don't even like shrimp, but I loved Macky's.

Hawaii - Day IV

We were ready for a good beach day again.  We decided to stay close on the North Shore and hit Wiamea Bay.  We got all set up and then decided this was no beach for children.  The waves were pretty rough, crashing right on the beach.  We packed up and drove to Lanikai again where we felt confident we would find the beach day we wanted.  It was just over an hour drive and this is where the miraculous turing point in Peter's life happened.  He just fell asleep... in his car seat!  He didn't even fuss.  He just fell asleep and slept for an hour.  He hasn't done that since he was 2 months or so.   Seriously, he had been full-throttle crying whenever we were in the car up until that point.  It was miraculous and though he still cries now and then, it's mostly just when he's hungry now... like a normal baby... like the old Peter we used to know.   So even though we got to Lanikai and spent a windy and relatively cold day on the beach, I can't count that trip as a fail.  It was totally worth it.

 Whatcha got there, daddy?

We headed back to the North Shore and on our way stopped at the Dole Pineapple plantation for some Dole Whip (pineapple ice cream).  Back at home we found a friend lounging in our back yard.  Pretty fun.

Jane's sand stance. I hope this is a short phase.  She used to like the beach.

We settled back in at our place and Caitlin and I watched the kids while Chris and Dave went to go jump off a big rock at Wiamea Bay.  I used this time to just take pictures of what was going on a home.

Zoey was giving me quite the photoshoot with her scantily-clad poses and intense smolder.  We'll have to save some of these for her wedding day or an office party baby picture contest.

I tried to take some pictures of Jane and Peter, but that fell apart pretty quickly.

Jane was watching Tangled from time to time.

Mason was watching the Incredibles...

I can't really say what Quinn was doing...

Quinn and Jane did follow each other around outside for a time while Caitlin and I sat with our babies on a blanket in the grass.  Even the "down time" was just wonderful!

That night we went to dinner in Haliewa at a Thai restaurant we found listed on TV Food Maps (Restaurants featured on FoodNetwork).  It was a really cool place.  We were just getting food to go, so the owner/chef came out and didn't take our order, but asked us questions like:  Do you like spicy foods?  Chicken, pork, crab, shrimp, tofu, and duck.  Do you eat all of those meats?  After the series of questions, he said, "For you, I'm going to make a crab stir fry, and for you lettuce wraps."  We of course, shared everything and everything was so good.  It was a fun experience.
