Oregon (Part II)

Ok, here are just a few more pictures of the Oregon trip.  Here we are at the Meares Point Lighthouse.

This is a big spruce... and award winning big spruce.

The Beach at Pacific City.  This one had a gnarly sand dune next to it and some pretty gorgeous rock formations.  We had fun hiking around and watching the waves crash against the rocks.

On our last night, we went to the Tillamook County fair.  We caught the famous Pig and Ford races where drivers race to the side of the track, pick up a pig, hand crank their old Ford cars and race around the track.  It's so funny what traditions different areas come up with.  We also caught a demolition derby, but Chris and I are kind of demolition derby snobs now.  Once you've enjoyed the Heber Demolition derby, there's just not much else that compares.

Oregon (part I)

The Walton family vacation this year was in Tillamook, Oregon.  Chris and I only had a few days in Utah before we hopped back in the car and drove out to the coast.  On our way in, we stopped along the columbia river to do a quick 4 mile hike up to Punch Bowl falls.  I forgot how much I love the northwest.  It's so beautiful.   I know Jane's getting a little big for her bjorn, but we haven't bought a fancy backpack carrier yet.

We rented a nice big house on Netarts Bay with a great yard for the kids to run around in.  We played bocci and wiffleball and the kids road their bikes and scooters around, but the biggest hits this year were Dan's giant bubbles.  We had so much fun playing with those and even brought them to the beach where they stirred up quite the audience.

We also toured the cheese factory and sampled their delicious ice cream, went on a few hikes and had some nice northwest coast beach days.

Hug Point was probably our best beach day.  We had nice warm weather sheltered from the wind.  There was skim boarding, spelunking, tidal pool exploration, and of course, lots of photography.  We finished the whole evening off with a campfire on the beach, roasting hot dogs and singing old family songs.
