3 Months (almost)

Jane at almost 3 months:
Doesn't hate tummy time near as much now that she can lift her head.
Sleeps 7-9 hours straight every night (pretty awesome)
Has recently discovered her hands and feet.  She stares at them as she moves them around.
Loves to suck on her fist and can get it to her mouth pretty well
Giggled for the first time the other day on the changing table (still one of her favorite places)
Gets excited about toys dangling over her head.
Loves to ride Daddy's version of a free fall.  (shocked expression on the way down, but lots of smiles immediately afterward)
Smiles with her tongue to the left.

She likes bath time too.

Thanksgiving Week

Thanks to Chris' student schedule, we got to spend the whole Thanksgiving week in California.  We drove as far as Vegas on the way down and stayed with my Aunt and Uncle.  Jane did pretty well at first, sleeping for the first three hours.  We stopped and ate dinner, fed and changed her, and then she cried for the last two hours.   It  started with a longly cry and slowly escalated to a very angry cry.  Poor girl.  She did much better with the Vegas to Irvine leg, sleeping the whole way.  We did a lot of driving around that whole week so I think she finally got used to her car seat.  On the way back, we drove the straight 9 hours and she slept through seven of them.  Awesome!

We had a great time in California, mostly just visiting family and friends and playing lots of games.  We had only two thanksgiving dinners this year; one with Chris' mom and then with his dad.  The next day we squeezed in a third with Thanksgiving leftovers at the Redfords.

The Angels stadium was having a toys for tots event one morning, so we brought a toy and then walked around the Angels' dugout and field.  Jane even got her picture taken with Santa.

We had great weather while we were there.  We even got to go to the beach one day and it was nicer than it was for the 4th of July.

A little early for jammies, I know, but Jane already blew out of her cute outfit.

2 Months

Jane is almost 2 months old now.  She had her two month appointment just a couple days ago, which of course means shots.  She handled it pretty well and the nurse was quick getting all three shots in before Jane could catch her breath after her first scream.  It obviously still took its toll on her, though since she slept for 9 and a half hours straight.  I wish that meant I got a good night's sleep too, but I just kept waking up wondering when she was going to get up and going to peek and see if she was still breathing.  Jane is currently weighing in at 10 pounds (dropping from the 71st percentile to the 31st percentile) and measuring at 22 inches long (dropping from the 82nd percentile to the 37th percentile).  Her doctor says she's still healthy though, so we're just chalking her stunted growth up to her parent's genetics.

Jane is now sleeping quite well getting five to seven hours of uninterrupted sleep most nights.  We are very grateful.  She's pretty awesome through most of the day too.  She's just a pretty chill baby.  She loves sucking on her fist when she finds it and is actually taking a pacifier more these days.  She doesn't hate her car seat near a much now and had no trouble at all when we introduced the bottle.  She's just a really awesome baby.  That's pretty nice when it comes time to leave her.

The other night I went to an MBA Spouses Association (MBASA) event.  It was a "Day in the Life" event where they got two favorite MBA professors to teach one of their lectures to the MBA spouses.  It was really fun.  We had the Operations teacher first and did a case study on Benihanas and what made the restaurant so successful.  He even sent us the case in advance so we could come ready for him to cold call on us to answer questions (as he is known to do in his classroom).  Our next class was marketing and we did a case study on the rebranding of Plastic after it was threatened by environmentalists.  Both classes were fascinating and so much fun.  Now I know Chris is just laughing and partying all day!

Last night, Chris and I left Jane with the Mitchells and went out on a much needed date night.  How fun to hold hands and have Chris open the door for me again.  He's usually holding Jane and I'm opening doors for them.  We went and saw Skyfall (which was excellent, of course).  Our friend, Marshall works for Adobe and they bought out a theater on opening night and Marshall happened to have a few extra tickets so we got to go fro free!  Even better.

Well, as always, here are a few more pictures of Jane.

Sleepy Jane

Jane was looking all cute and girlie, so I decided to put her down on her pink blanket and take some pictures.  Well, this is what Jane looks like if you just put her down for tummy time.  She's getting pretty good a holding her head up, but if you put her down like this, she doesn't even want to try much. A few uncomfortable grunt and then come the tears.

But if I get her sleeping soundly in my arms, I can put her down on her stomach for naps sometimes and she'll often sleep longer that way.  Look how peaceful she is.

Halloween

Well, at least Jane got a costume this year.  We had kind of a disappointing Halloween.  No costume parties.  Seriously, no costume parties and we decided against bringing our newborn to crash another singles' dance.  Our ward didn't even have a Trunk or Treat, but I was already working on Jane's costume, so I decided to finish it anyway.  She makes a pretty cute little witch.

We did spend an evening carving pumpkins with friends, though, so it wasn't a totally unsuccessful Halloween.

Marietta held Jane all night, so it was only fitting that she would be holding her in their family photo :)

Jane's Blessing

Jane was blessed yesterday.  Scott and Elisha, Andrew and Jessica, Greg and Sherrill, Marshall and Marietta, Colette, and Shay all showed up to support.  It was great to have so many wonderful friends there.  Chris had Scott, Greg, and Andrew stand in the circle with him.  I asked Chris a few weeks ago if he was nervous about it at all and he said he wasn’t.  Afterward, he reported he was kind of nervous when it came time, but you wouldn’t know it.  He did a great job and it was a beautiful blessing.  I cried, but Jane remained quiet and alert through the blessing.  She is such a wonderful baby.  We are so blessed to have her in our lives.

Isn't she adorable?  She was killing me with all her smiles in this photo shoot.  Jane’s dress was modified from a pinafore that my mom found in her trunk.  We know she got it from her mother’s trunk, but that’s about it.  I love it though, and Jane looked beautiful.

This is when you know the photo shoot is over.
