Kirtland

Kirtland is only 3.5 hours from our house and Chris had never been there before, so it definitely made the summer travel list.  Besides, this has turned into Church Historical Sites Summer Tour 2013.  We even questioned if we should just do a trip to New York just to round things out.  The Mitchells moved to Virgina a few weeks ago and they made the 8 hour drive to meet us there in Kirtland.  They are such good friends and it was so fun to see them again.  We started at the Kirtland Temple.  It was neat to sit there in the pews and see exactly the place where Christ appeared on the breastwork of the pulpit, and then sing the Spirit of God with the other people on our tour.

The Whitney Store is one of my favorites.  I love being able to sit in the school of the prophets and feel the spirit there.  Our sister missionary guides were great and bore beautiful testimonies there.

We drove over to the quarry where they got stones for the temple.  The walk to the stream is so beautiful.  The saints sure settled in some beautiful areas... and then they went to Utah.  Just kidding.  Utah is beautiful in its own way.

Cleveland is only 20 minutes away, so we headed there for the evening.  We had dinner in neat area, saw the Christmas Story House, and then went to a Cleveland Indians game.  It rained a little when we first got there, but it was still warm and we were able to steal someone else's seats under a cover for just long enough to wait it out.  It was a fun night.
